YANGZHOU -- An online campaign was launched in Yangzhou City, east China's Jiangsu Province, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Grand Canal's UNESCO World Heritage listing.

The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the longest artificial waterway in the world, was inscribed on the World Heritage list on June 22, 2014.

With a length of nearly 1,800 kilometers and a history of more than 2,500 years, the canal has made significant contributions to the socioeconomic and cultural development in China's north and south.
As part of the campaign, a series of online and offline activities will be carried out to promote the cultural heritage and historical value of the Grand Canal.

The event was jointly organized by the Cyberspace Administration of China, the National Cultural Heritage Administration, and some other departments.

Yangzhou is known as China's unique "canal city" because the Ancient Grand Canal in Yangzhou is the oldest section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It opened a canal-themed museum back in 2021 that houses more than 10,000 pieces of various cultural relics, representing a splendid journey through the ancient Grand Canal and the history of China.
