Qingdao athletes win four gold medals at Chengdu games 2023/8/8 source: Print

Athletes from Qingdao, Shandong province had claimed four gold medals in the Chengdu FISU World University Games by Aug 2 in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.

On July 30, Wang Shikun, an athlete from Qingdao's Laixi, along with his teammates Du Meiyu and Chen Yansong, secured victory over France to claim gold in the men's compound archery team event at the FISU World University Games.

On Aug 1, Qingdao athlete Wang Xiaotong and her teammates He Zhuojia and Qian Tianyi defeated Japan to claim gold in the women's table tennis team event.

Wang, born in 2000 performed well in the competition. Wang said that she regards Qingdao table tennis player Chen Meng, the reigning Olympic women's singles champion, as her idol.

Zhang Kai won the men's 80kg title in the taekwondo competition at the Chengdu games, defeating Salaev Shukhrat of Uzbekistan in the final on Aug 1. Zhang, born in 1998 in Qingdao, is currently a student majoring in physical education at Southwest University.

Qingdao player Liu Dingshuo and his teammate Qian Tianyi won the mixed doubles title of the table tennis tournament and in an all-Chinese final, Liu and Qian defeated teammates Xue Fei/Wang Xiaotong 11-4, 11-7, 11-8, 4-11 and 11-6.

It's the third gold medal for Team China after claiming men's and women's team titles earlier.
