An exhibition showcasing nearly 400 works of traditional craftsmanship has opened in Qingdao, Shandong province, offering visitors a glimpse into the city's rich intangible cultural heritage.

Held at the Qingdao Municipal Archives Exhibition Center, the free exhibition features 43 traditional crafts and cultural practices, including shell carving, mother-of-pearl inlay, Lu embroidery and paper-cutting, and will run through March 2027.

Highlights include intricate embroidery, delicately carved shells, colorful woodblock New Year prints, and handcrafted items made from straw and willow. Video presentations also introduce visitors to local performing arts and martial arts traditions, including Jiaozhou Yangge folk dance.

Jointly organized by the Qingdao municipal bureau of culture and tourism and the Qingdao Municipal Archives, the exhibition explores how traditional skills are being preserved, passed down, and adapted to modern life.

Qingdao is home to 1,092 recognized intangible cultural heritage items, including 16 nationally recognized items, as well as 775 recognized inheritors and 242 heritage workshops. More than 1,000 heritage-related activities are held across the city annually, attracting over 50,000 participants.

Additional workshops, hands-on activities, and heritage-themed markets are planned throughout the exhibition.

The venue at 148 Yanji Road in Shibei district is open Tuesday through Sunday, with last admission at 4 pm.
