Qingdao's nine major beaches have undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from simple swimming spots into major coastal destinations. By the end of August this year, they had welcomed over 20.5 million visitors.

Each beach now offers unique experiences. Bathing Beach No 3 features seaside bars and nighttime light shows, while Shilaoren Beach provides camping facilities and a bookstore. Golden Beach has become a hub for water sports, and Silver Beach offers serene camping experiences. Visitors can enjoy sunset watching, live concerts, craft beer festivals, and fashion shows along the shore.

The beaches have also seen creative cultural expressions. Tourists build elaborate sand sculptures, creating impromptu "sand architecture festivals" that have become a summer tradition. Local customs like marking beach spots with drawn circles to claim space reflect the trust and community spirit among visitors.

Safety remains a priority, with professional 24-hour lifeguard services enhanced by drones and facial recognition technology, alongside a network of volunteer lifesavers whose duties include both rescue and beach cleaning.

The beaches are also becoming wedding destinations, with a new seaside marriage registration point opened in May. Looking ahead, the 2.46-billion-yuan ($366.16 million) Shilaoren cultural industry project will further enhance the coastal experience.

From sunrise gatherings to nighttime events, Qingdao's beaches have transformed into year-round cultural and recreational hubs that offer something for everyone.
