German specialty chemicals manufacturer WEISS Group opened its first production base in China on Aug 25 at the Sino-German Ecopark in Qingdao, Shandong province, marking a new step in the company's expansion in the Asia-Pacific market.

With a total investment of $10 million, the Qingdao facility will be developed in two phases. The first phase focuses on the automated filling and packaging of adhesives and sealants for windows and doors, with products targeting markets across the Asia-Pacific region. The second phase will introduce raw material production and expand the company's product portfolio.

Following the establishment of its China trading company in Qingdao, WEISS also plans to develop the new facility into its China headquarters integrating production, research and development, and trade.

Once the first phase reaches full operation, the project is expected to generate annual sales of about 60 million yuan ($8.4 million), with annual imports and exports reaching approximately 35 million yuan.

Founded in 1815 and headquartered in Haiger, Hesse, Germany, WEISS is a family-owned company specializing in adhesives and sealants, sandwich panels and cleaning products. Its products are sold in 65 countries worldwide.

The company decided to invest in China in the first half of 2025 and selected Qingdao as the location for the project in September. With support from the German Chambers of Commerce Worldwide Network and local authorities, the facility moved from site selection to production in less than a year.

The new base further strengthens economic and industrial cooperation between Qingdao and Germany and adds to the growing presence of German companies in the city.
