Qingdao WCNA breaks ground on hydrogen refueling station project 2026/4/4 source: Print

On April 1, construction officially began on the hydrogen refueling station project at the Qingdao Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park. Located in Poli town, Qingdao West Coast New Area, this project bolsters the city's goal to become a leading hydrogen industry hub in northern China.

With a total investment of 120 million yuan ($17 million), the project is divided into two phases. The first phase involves a refueling station with a daily capacity of 5 metric tons, enough to support 200 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Upon completion of the second phase — which includes a specialized filling plant — the facility's total capacity will reach 10 tons per day. This expansion is intended to meet the rapidly growing local demand for hydrogen storage, transportation, and refueling.

Using the industrial resources of the Qingdao Port's Dongjiakou Port area and nearby chemical zones, the project incorporates high-efficiency safety designs. As a crucial part of the Qingdao Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park's infrastructure, it is important for advancing commercial hydrogen applications and developing a green, low-carbon transportation system.

Poli town has consistently focused its development on hydrogen energy, having already attracted 21 projects with a combined investment of over 17 billion yuan. Moving forward, the local government plans to speed up the construction of purification stations and hydrogen pipelines while exploring integrated wind-solar-hydrogen storage models. This project is a critical step in improving the regional energy network and strengthening Qingdao's core competitiveness in the global green energy landscape.
