A batch of daily consumer goods worth RMB 860,000 loaded on a TIR international transport vehicle recently went through high-efficiency consolidation dispatch and customs formalities before being headed for Russia. This batch of goods will leave China via the Manzhou land port and take an estimated 10 days to arrive at the destination. This is the first batch of Chinese goods which is transported to a SCO member state under the new model “TIR+bonded logistics”. This marks that the new high-efficiency logistics channel, which is characterized by “consolidation in the comprehensive bonded zone, nonstop land transportation” and geared towards SCO member states, has officially begun operations.
TIR, which stands for Transport International Router, is a global cross-border cargo transport and customs clearance system created on the basis of the UN Convention on International Transport of Goods. Goods transported in accordance with TIR can skip the hassle of repeated inspections and reloading on new or spare trucks. This type of transportation can cut drastically logistics costs, and consume 50% less time compared with conventional cross-border road transportation. The SCO Demonstration Area (SCODA) has so far developed four TIR routes, namely, China-Russia, China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan, China-Kazakhstan and China-Belarus routes, and boasted 31 fleets that are eligible for TIR transport. The SCODA in 2025 retained the first position in China in regard to TIR shipments, and saw a total of 435 departures, emerging as a regional hub of international road transportation.
