Qingdao’s sci-tech innovation corridor, a pioneering and crucial project that aims to help Qingdao blossom into a scientific and technological powerhouse with core competitiveness, has officially begun construction. The move is intended to create a space that pools resources, facilitates transformation and appeals to talent, capital and industries, and to build a reputation as a city that prides itself on sci-tech innovation.
With Binhai Avenue as the main axis, the corridor stretches 53 kilometers along the coast and boasts a planned area of about 190 square kilometers, linking Laoshan District, Licang District and the Qingdao Oceantec Valley. As planned, by 2027, the sci-tech innovation corridor will make breakthroughs in terms of sci-tech innovation platforms, personnel and businesses, where resources such as key laboratories and new-type R&D institutions comprise more than 45% of Qingdao’s total, and the number of valid invention patents per 10,000 people, the total sci-tech innovation personnel headcount and the number of new- and high-tech enterprises will all see an increase of more than 15%. By 2035, the corridor will spearhead the commercialization of a number of disruptive technological achievements, help Qingdao to play a pivotal role in China’s great push for scientific and technological innovation and to step forward in pioneering the global marine science and technology. By that time, the Qingdao sci-tech innovation corridor will emerge as a domestically famous site for youth innovation, a hub of intelligent industries, and a world-class center for marine sci-tech innovation and industries.
