The coastal city of Qingdao in Shandong has been named one of China's top 15 wellness cities in the newly released list of China's wellness city rankings, standing as the only Northern Chinese city in this elite tier.

The ranking evaluates cities across five key indicators: ecological environment, healthcare resources, industry integration, public well-being, and wellness policies.

Qingdao's distinction comes from its unique natural advantages and systematic development strategy. The city has an exceptional ecological foundation with its iconic coastline, mountains like Laoshan Mountain National Park, and renowned beaches such as the Golden Beach Beer City. Its abundant seawater bromine-salt hot springs and consistently high air quality have earned it UN recognition as one of China's most livable cities, as well as create an ideal environment for wellness tourism.

With 300 senior care facilities, 286 of which are integrating medical care, 134 community centers, and more than 1,300 neighborhood stations, Qingdao has established a comprehensive 15-minute healthcare and elderly care network.

The growing wellness sector in the city now includes over 11,000 enterprises, with the life and health industry steadily moving toward its 2027 target of 100 billion yuan ($14.1 billion) in scale.

By developing premium wellness tourism routes and fostering a professional service ecosystem, Qingdao is establishing itself as a globally recognized wellness destination and a key driver for the country's health and wellness industry.
