Flying with Qingdao's flavors: A guide to taking seafood, beer on your flight 2025/11/9 source: Print

Qingdao's love for the ocean is best experienced through its fresh seafood and world-famous beer. For those wishing to take these local specialties home, understanding airline regulations is key. Here's your guide to traveling with Qingdao’s signature flavors.

All fresh seafood, including fish, shrimp, crabs, and shellfish, is not allowed onboard but may be checked as luggage. Passengers should contact their airline in advance for specific packaging and acceptance policies.

Pre-packaged seafood items are generally permitted. However, products like jellyfish or agar jelly in gift boxes must be placed in checked baggage. Well-sealed, vacuum-packed cooked foods without sauces or strong odors can be carried onboard.

If your food box contains ice packs, remember these are considered liquids and must be removed from carry-on bags. They can, however, be packed in checked luggage. Note that self-heating meals are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage.

As for Tsingtao Beer, the rules vary by alcohol content:

Beverages with 24 percent to 70 percent alcohol can be checked, limited to 5 liters per person.

Anything over 70 percent alcohol is not allowed on the plane.

Drinks below 24 percent alcohol should be confirmed with your airline for checked baggage limits.

Plan ahead, pack smart, and enjoy sharing a taste of Qingdao — safely and smoothly!
