Qingdao Today
To meet its citizen’s aspiration for more high-quality green spaces, Qingdao sustains its efforts to advance the construction of a “park city”. Qingdao is currently dotted with 966 parks of all kinds, comprising 330 city parks, 622 pocket-size parks and 14 forest parks. Qingdao expects to be home to a total of more than 1,000 parks by the end of 2025. Parks will be widespread, covering in the main every nook and cranny of the city.
In an effort to build a bluish green bay featuring the harmonious co-existence between mountains, seas, people and urban areas, and a park city featuring red tiles and green trees, Qingdao continues to improve its park-featured urban spatial pattern, and works hard to put up a system of parks that is characterized by well-balanced distribution, friendliness to all ages, multiple types and high-quality services. Qingdao will add no fewer than 50 pocket-size parks by 2025. Furthermore, it has plans to build no shorter than 30 km-long greenways to make the city’s green spaces such as major parks, mountains, sea areas, rivers and lakes, and wetlands linked up with each other.
Leveraging broad space in parks, Qingdao will launch recreational and science education activities ranging from park festivals, cherry blossom festivals, talk shows and exhibitions of intangible cultural heritage in 2025 to deliver different experiences and cultural recreations to citizens and tourists.
