As a gateway for opening up in northern China, Qingdao continues efforts to promote higher-level opening-up and sees the sector of aviation logistics growing by leaps and bounds. The cargo and mail throughput of Qingdao Airport in the January-October period added up to 229,400 tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.27%. To be specific, the cargo and mail throughput for international and regional markets reached up to 98,700 tons, and imports and exports amounted to approximately RMB99.48 bln, gaining by 39% year on year.

Qingdao Airport has so far operated a total of 16 freighter routes, including eight domestic air routes and eight international ones to Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Toronto, Los Angeles and New York. Among them, the China-Canada (Toronto) air freight route is the sole Canadian freighter route that is run at regular intervals in northern China. Furthermore, Qingdao Airport expedites the construction of the special cargoes transfer center in northern China, carries out transportation of hazardous articles and refrigerated transportation as well as transportation of over-length, oversized and over-weighted shipments, continues to shore up its service capability and moves faster to build a logistics transfer center in northern China.
