Chinese player Chen Meng defeated her teammate Sun Yingsha to successfully defend her title and win the gold medal in the women's singles table tennis final at the Paris Olympics on Aug 3, Beijing time.

This victory marked the 14th gold medal for the Chinese delegation and the first medal for a Qingdao athlete at this year's Olympics.

Chen was born on January 15, 1994, in Qingdao, Shandong province, and first began practicing table tennis in 1999. She joined the Shandong Provincial Team in 2004 and then progressed to the national team in 2007.
