The 2023 China National Science and Technology Award was recently unveiled. A record high of 15 scientific and technological achievements from Qingdao have won the award. To be specific, Qingdao has presided over the implementation of two projects receiving the second prize for the National Award for Science and Technology Progress, and participated in the fulfillment of 13 projects, which comprise one special prize winner, one first prize winner and 11 second prize winners.

Award-winning projects from Qingdao are marked by marine scientific research. Five of them relate to the ocean. They are the Critical Technological Equipment and Application for Deep-sea Image Detection, the Key Technology and Application for “Deep Sea No. 1” Ultra-deep-water Gas Field Exploration, the Targeted Nutrition Technology System Construction and Industrialization for Marine Fish Culture, the Deep Oil and Gas Exploration Theoretical and Technological Innovation and Significant Discoveries in Bohai Sea Extension-Composite Strike Fault Zone, and the Key Technology and Application for Conservation and Restoration of Sea-beach under Complicated Coastal Environment.

As for the project winning the first prize, Qingdao has contributed to the construction of “Deep Sea No. 1” energy station, the world’s first 100,000-tonnage deep water submersible oil production and storage platform, and chalked up a new world record for marine construction and engineering.  (Geng Tingting)
