The Xiaoyu Mountain Cultural Celebrity Street is among the two national historically and culturally famous streets in Qingdao. Composed of Fushan Road, Yushan Road, Daxue Road and Laiyang Road that encircle Xiaoyu Mountain and the surrounding alleys like Huangxian Road, it boasts not only the innately beautiful coastline and mountain, but also profound historical and cultural value like a museum.

As early as 1923, Kang Youwei became the first cultural celebrity to live nearby Xiaoyu Mountain. In 1924, the Private Qingdao University, the predecessor of Shandong University, was established on the northwest side of Xiaoyu Mountain. A bunch of cultural celebrities in modern times, represented by Kang Youwei, Laoshe, Wen Yiduo, Liang Shiqiu, Shen Congwen, Yu Dafu and Su Xuelin, settled down, taught, briefly lived or travelled in Qingdao one after another. Qingdao was depicted as gentle as a fictitious land of peace in the works or memoirs of these celebrities. They wrote their masterworks in Qingdao.

Walk along an obscure path that diverges from Daxue Road to locate Huangxian Road, a small street where Laoshe, Yang Zhensheng, Zhao Taimou, brothers and sisters of Huang Zongjiang used to live, and there are former residences of many celebrities in the Republic of China period such as Ning Xiuen, Zhao Zhenhuan and Zhu Yangwu.

Li Ming, an expert on Qingdao's culture and history, said, "the Xiaoyu Mountain Cultural Celebrity Street is a block which has little association with the downtown life. It is a secluded and lonesome place where people tend to be lethargic, which is coincidentally the essential qualities of the currently popular slow life and in-depth tourism."

As a matter of fact, the Xiaoyu Mountain Cultural Celebrity Street has long gone viral among the young generation and is known as one of the most beautiful internet-famous sites on Xiaohongshu, Zhihu and Microblog. The intersection of Daxue Road and Yushan Road is a publicly-recognized romantic site where “love is around the corner”. Huangxian Road, a new favorite of sightseers, is home to the century-old streetscape, Luo Tuo Xiangzi Museum renovated from an ancient building and Day & Night Coffee-shop which are both popular sites for photoing and traveling, and excellent “shooting locations” for film and TV series crews.
