Since the first metro line was put into operation in 2015, Qingdao has become one of the most fast-growing Chinese cities in terms of metro development. As of the end of 2023, the cumulative passenger volume of Qingdao Metro had topped 1.5 billion. According to the newly-unveiled 2023 Qingdao Metro Operation Service Responsibility Report, by the end of 2023, Qingdao Metro had boasted 7 lines in operation with a total length of 318 km and 150 stations in service, and carried an increasing number of passengers. The passenger volume for the full year of 2023 amounted to 470 million, and the significance of rail transit for urban development is being brought into play.
Qingdao’s metro network enjoys “seamless connection” with one airport, six railway stations and five long-distance bus stations and can carry passengers directly to more than 40 tourist attractions including the Laoshan Mountain Scenic Spot, the Zhanqiao Pier and the Old Stone Man Bathing Beach. Noteworthy are Metro Line No. 1 and No. 8 spanning mountains and seas that have linked up four districts and one county-level city in Qingdao. In the 2023 Labor Day holiday, the number of passengers Qingdao Metro transported reached a historic high. The passenger volume of 2.24 million on May 1 chalked up a single daily record.
