The Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China under the Ministry of Science and Technology recently unveiled the 2023 Innovation Capacity Evaluation Report for National Innovation-oriented Cities. This year, the report included for the first time Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing, the four municipalities directly under the central government, pushing the total number of cities under evaluation from 97 to 101. The ranking indicates that Qingdao occupies the 13th spot among all Chinese cities, the 10th place in cities other than municipalities directly under the central government, performing as same as it did over the past three years and securing the position among the first-tier China national innovation-oriented cities.
China national innovation-oriented cities refer to these cities which excel in independent innovation, highlight the outstanding role of scientific and technological support, enjoy high-level social and economic sustainable development and remarkably reach out to surrounding regions. Qingdao performs noticeably well in quite a few indicator evaluations. The top 100 Chinese cities in terms of innovation capacity were also unveiled in the report. Qingdao makes great achievements and ranks 13th among all 288 prefecture-level and above cities. (Geng Tingting)
