On December 30, 2023, workers were busy with shield excavation in the principal line of the south section of No. 2 tunneling project of Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay.

On the day, shield excavation commenced for the principle line of the south section of No. 2 tunneling project of Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay, marking that shield excavation for crossing the sea officially began for China’s largest and longest undersea tunneling project. Boasting a designed speed of 80 km/h, the No. 2 tunnel of Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay will connect Qingdao’s main urban areas and the West Coast New Area. The entire project will span 17.48 km, including a 14.37 km-long principal tunnel, 9.95 km of which needs to cross the sea. By Li Ziheng
