Qingdao recently held a news conference to introduce achievements currently scored in urban renovation and construction. With a focus on ten key areas, Qingdao has carried out 2,157 projects, 1,314 of which are now completed, since the beginning of 2022.
By prioritizing shoring up infrastructure weakness in the urban renovation campaign, Qingdao has implemented a total of 135 infrastructure projects over the past two years, including the Jiaozhou Bay’s second tunnel project and the second phase of the elevated road for the cross-sea bridge. Qingdao sees as many as 10 metro lines under construction and ranks 10th in China with a metro mileage of 318km.
By taking advantage of the opportunities presented by urban renovation, Qingdao, a pilot city for the re-development of low-efficiency land in China, has successively launched the development and construction of low-efficiency areas such as the old Sifang industrial zone, the Qingdao North Railway Station and its periphery. As a result, close to 50,000 Mu of land has been vacated, which enables a number of large industry projects and cluster areas to emerge at an accelerated pace.
Both speed and human touch matters in the urban renovation campaign. Over the two years, approximately 800 old urban residential communities in Qingdao have been renovated. Furthermore, sustained efforts have been made to build Qingdao into a park city. With a combined 60 hilltop parks renovated and a slew of pocket parks available to the public, the vision of “green vegetation and parks everywhere” is becoming reality. (Wang Bingjie)
