On the evening of August 22, “Zhengzhou”, BYD’s own ro-ro vessel, started to depart for South America after loaded with more than 6,000. This marks that exports of commercial vehicles via ro-ro shipping in Fuzhou Port hit a record high of more than 50,000 units. Furthermore, Fuzhou Port clinched a new record in the number of vehicles exported via ro-ro shipping in a single voyage. This marks a milestone in Fuzhou Port’s efforts to propel the growth of vehicle exports at a faster pace.

Reliant on Fuzhou Port’s sea-rail combined transport channel for commercial vehicles in Southeast China, vehicles exported by BYD this time were transported directly by Fuzhou Railway to Jiangyin terminal of Fuzhou Port, representing another trial of the mode named “integrated railway-port operation”. This efficient and inexpensive sea-rail combined transport channel is evolving into an important route for vehicle makers in the hinder-land of the country to venture abroad.

Having 7,000 vehicle spaces, the ro-ro vessel was nearly fully loaded in this voyage. To ensure loading could be carried out in an efficient and orderly manner, Fuzhou Province Fuzhou Port Development Center provided proactive services, coordinated in advance pilotage and towing efforts to fulfill all procedures smoothly so that the vessel could berth immediately upon arrival. Given the arrival of the vehicles in batches, the center worked with the customs to adopt the mode of customs declaration by stages, and employed the mode in which “consolidation and offloading take place simultaneously” to ensure that all vehicles after arrival could be consolidated in an orderly manner, loaded in batches and shipped as scheduled.

According to statistics, Jiangyin terminal of Fuzhou Port in the period from January to July 2026 saw a total of 39,359 units of vehicles exported via ro-ro shipping, far above the total number in 2025. Since the beginning of this August, handling of vehicles onto ro-ro vessels at Jiangyin terminal of Fuzhou Port is entering a peak period. It is estimated that eight vessels will arrive for berthing, and more than 20,000 units of vehicles will be handled per month.
