Core bearings of offshore wind turbines are replaced with China-made ones 2025/10/31 source: International Daily Print

The replacement of main bearings of a Y14 prototype in the first phase of the offshore wind plant project in Xinghua Bay, Fuqing was smoothly concluded the other day. The move marks that the offshore wind turbine has been equipped with China-made core bearings.

Despite the type of turbine is the first to be subject to domestic substitution in terms of main bearings, Fuqing Strait Power Generation Co., Ltd., which is affiliated to China Three Gorges Corporation Fujian Branch, has managed to tackle obstacles such as precedents, enormous difficulty and high risks, and took as short as 56 hours to finish hoisting and replacement works.

According to a responsible person in China Three Gorges Corporation Fujian Branch, The successful replacement with domestically made main bearings not only marks the first step for China to accelerate domestic substitution of core components of used turbine units, but more importantly epitomizes in a vividly China Three Gorges Corporations unremitting efforts to help fulfill the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.

The Fuqing Xinghua Bay offshore wind plant is the world’s first test field for a super-power wind turbine prototype. Every breakthrough, from prototype testing in the initial phase, the first re-arrangement of submarine cables to the latest domestic substitution of core components, has highlighted the exemplary role of the Xinghua Bay offshore wind plant.  (Jiang Yachen)
