LOS ANGELES, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Warner Bros. and DC Studios' Superman debuted at the top of the North American box office this weekend, grossing 122 million U.S. dollars, according to data released Sunday by Comscore.
Directed by James Gunn, the newly rebooted superhero film, based on the iconic DC Comics character, stars David Corenswet in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent.
Overseas, the film earned 95 million dollars, bringing its global weekend total to 217 million dollars.
Superman currently holds an 82 percent approval rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, based on 352 reviews. Additionally, it received an "A-" grade from CinemaScore, which polls audiences on a scale from A+ to F.
In second place, Universal and Amblin's Jurassic World Rebirth brought in 40 million dollars in its second weekend, bringing its North American total to 232.1 million dollars and its global total to 529.5 million dollars.
Rounding out the top three, "F1 The Movie," presented by Warner Bros. and Apple Original Films, earned 13 million dollars in its third weekend, bringing its North American total to 136.2 million dollars.
