LOS ANGELES, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Sony's animated superhero film "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" reclaimed the top spot surprisingly at North American box office with an estimated 19.3 million U.S. dollars on its fourth weekend of release, data from the measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.
The film has earned 317 million dollars in North America for a global total of 560.3 million dollars through Sunday, including over 45.8 million dollars from the Chinese mainland.
"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," a sequel to 2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," features the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales. Shameik Moore reprises his voice role as Morales, alongside returning cast members Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry and others.
Disney and Pixar's animated film "Elemental" remained in second place on its second weekend with 18.5 million dollars for a North American cume of 65.5 million dollars to date. The film has grossed an estimated 121 million dollars globally.
Rounding out the top three, Warner Bros. Pictures' presentation of DC Comics' superhero film "The Flash" took in 15.3 million dollars on its second weekend for a North American total of 87.6 million dollars.
