China's express delivery sector has maintained its global lead so far in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021–2025), with parcel volume rising from 108.3 billion in 2021 to 175 billion in 2024, according to the State Post Bureau.

On average, more than 500 million parcels were collected daily over the period. Advanced technologies have underpinned the surge, with large AI models optimizing everything from warehouse management to last-mile delivery, and with unmanned systems boosting efficiency across storage, transport, and distribution. The sector recorded a single-day high of 729 million parcels collected.

The sector has strengthened links with the real economy, supporting sectors such as modern agriculture and advanced manufacturing. More than 1,600 major projects were launched so far during the period, while in 2024 alone express delivery services facilitated transactions worth over 13 trillion yuan (about 1.82 trillion U.S. dollars) in online retail sales.
