Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province and host city of the upcoming 12th World Games, is leveraging the event's global appeal to boost summer consumption by rolling out a variety of cultural and tourism activities for both domestic and international visitors.
Scheduled for August 7 to 17, the Games will coincide with the summer travel peak.

In the run-up to the event, Chengdu has launched a themed consumption season running from June through August, blending World Games elements with local features.

Immersive experiences such as AR/VR installations and sports-themed markets are being introduced across the city's major commercial districts including the Chunxi Road and the Jiaozi Park to attract foot traffic and stimulate spending, according to Fu Xiongfei, an official with the Jiaozi Park Financial Business District Development Service Bureau.

Fu noted that these attractions help transform the Games' growing popularity into tangible consumer momentum.

"During the event, we are going to debut a World Games-themed countdown light show on the city's iconic Twin Towers, along with a naked-eye 3D animation of Ne Zha specially designed for the Games. The Games will be broadcast live on screens along the Jiaozi Avenue," Fu said.
As the first edition of the World Games to be held on the Chinese mainland, the Chengdu event is expected to bring together more than 4,000 athletes from over 100 countries and regions, with overall participation estimated at around 10,000.

With the recently expanded 240-hour visa-free transit policy, the number of inbound tourists is also projected to reach new high.
Organizers have curated tailored sightseeing routes for athletes and other participants and enhanced cross-border payment systems to facilitate inbound consumer spending, including the refund-upon-purchase service model.

According to an official in charge of entry and exit checks, the city, based on real-time data, will increase police staffing and streamline inspection procedures, so as to ensure smooth and orderly border clearance for both participants and travelers.

"During the World Games, we will work closely with the organizing committee to pre-register entry and exit information for participants, set up dedicated zones and lanes, and ensure tailored inspection services for all athletes and officials," said Xu Tao, a senior official with the Sichuan Exit-Entry Border Inspection General Station.
