LOS ANGELES -- Many Americans are struggling to cover healthcare costs and worry about falling sick, despite their government being the biggest global spender per capita on healthcare.

According to a survey by Gallup in December 2022, over 30 percent of American adults have experienced difficulties in paying for healthcare and accessing affordable, quality medical services, with many saying medical expenses are a source of daily stress.
Many Americans found it hard to pay their healthcare bills and that seeing a doctor was so expensive that they felt they couldn't afford to get sick.

Despite attempts under the administration of President Barack Obama to reform US healthcare to make it more accessible to the less well-off or those not covered by health insurance from their employer, the system is complex and difficult to navigate.

Many Americans make too much money to qualify for Medicare, a program jointly funded by states and the federal government to provide health coverage to low-income Americans, but not enough to pay for expensive private health insurance.
