Qingdao recently released an action plan for the development of intelligent connected NEVs (2024-2027). According to the plan, Qingdao strives to generate by 2027 a size of more than RMB300 bln across the industry chain, and a volume of over RMB50 bln in such auxiliary sectors as power batteries, intelligent cabin systems, automotive-grade chips and intelligent chassis.

Qingdao, where the automotive industrial chain currently has a volume of more than RMB180 bln, is home to eight automobile manufacturers. In the three years to come, Qingdao will prioritize developing automotive electronics, cultivating the power battery industry, taking a coordinated approach to develop Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) and smart transportation, and seeking innovation in the post-market industry. Efforts will be made to develop intelligent cabin systems including automotive-grade chips and control displays as well as the intelligent perception industry such as laser radars and millimeter-wave radars. Qingdao will move faster to work out a new generation of smart Lithium-ion electronic power batteries, and commercialize scientific and technological achievements on solid-state batteries. Qingdao will make an all-out effort to manufacture 1.3 million vehicles, in which NEVs will represent more than 40%, and export over 250,000 vehicles per year by 2027. (Sun Xin)
