Fresh beef imported from Australia recently arrived by air at the designated supervision site for inbound meat, representing the first batch of indemnificatory meat products imported via Qingdao Airport. It marks that all the five functions of Qingdao Airport as a port for importing frozen and live aquatic products, edible aquatic animals, fruits, plant seedlings and meats have been activated. Being a port for importing drugs, an international exchange office and a designated port for importing and exporting round Kimberley diamond, Qingdao Airport has currently the most functional airport in Shandong Province.

Thanks to its convenience as a port, Qingdao moves faster to become the most preferred destination port for foreign fresh and raw products to get into China. Take lobsters imported from Canada for example. Leveraging the Qingdao-Toronto freight route, the sole air freight channel operating regularly between the two countries in Northern China which went into operation in March 2023, Qingdao Airport has opened up a “green channel” for swift customs clearance of fresh products. Qingdao is among the major Chinese ports for importing lobsters, with a cumulative total of live lobsters imported from Canada.  (Zhou Jianliang)
