As the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, a traditional Chinese festival, is around the corner, many online travel platforms have forecast the trends of holiday tourism for the last few day. Boasting fabulous mountain and sea scenery and cultural heritage, Qingdao continues to find favor with tourists and ranks among a few “top 10” lists.

Due to time limit, tourists will mostly opt for short-distance travel in the imminent Dragon Boat Festival holiday. According to data from C-trip, an online travel agency, the bookings of micro tourism for the coming Dragon Boat Festival holiday, whose destination is Qingdao, have seen a year-on-year increase of 30%. Furthermore, Qingdao has ranked among the 10 most popular destination cities for tourism in the Dragon Boat Festival holiday on Tongcheng Trip.

Costal tourism and folk culture tourism are expected to be well sought after in the coming Dragon Boat Festival holiday. The “neo Chinese style” of tourism finds favor with young people. Scenic areas, tourist attractions, performances, intangible cultural heritage and festival celebrations relating to traditional Chinese culture of all kinds are drawing attention of tourists. Popular tourist attractions for reservation in the Dragon Boat Festival holiday include Qingdao Underwater World, Qingdao Naval Museum, Qingdao Polar Ocean Park, the Museum of the Former German Governor’s House in Qingdao, Qingdao Beer Museum and Xinhao Mountain Park.

On Qunar, Qingdao alongside Beijing and Shanghai are included among the top ten Chinese cities in terms of hotel reservation. According to data from C-trip, the average hotel expenses in the Dragon Boat Festival holiday in Qingdao and other popular tourist destinations reduce by over 30% compared with the levels in the May Day holiday, and are 20% to 30% less than the levels in the coming summer vacation time.

As indicated by travel data from many platforms, tourists tend to opt for travelling by high-speed railway for two to three hours. The Jinan-Qingdao Railway becomes a popular choice. Other routes including Beijing-Qingdao, which takes less than three hours by high-speed railway, are well sought after.  (Ma Xiaoting)
