Qingdao's Shinan district has been bolstering efforts to boost the consumption of new energy vehicles (NEVs), expanding consumption scenarios and stimulating market vitality through methods such as issuing car consumption vouchers and organizing car exhibitions.

In 2023, Shinan district issued five batches of automobile consumption vouchers, which contributed to automobile consumption of approximately 200 million yuan ($27.63 million). In March 2024, the district launched a new round of automobile consumption voucher distribution to boost automobile demand.

"Over 60 percent of the top NEV brands in the country have stores in Shinan," said Li Kun, an official from the Shinan district bureau of commerce.

In Shinan, the agglomeration effect of NEV brands is becoming increasingly evident and gradually becoming a new economic growth point. The increasing numbers of NEV brands operating in Shinan is not only due to government support, but also because of the favorable business environment and the high-quality development of the building economy unique to the district.

With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles, the construction of charging piles is crucial. In 2023, the district built 970 NEV charging piles. In 2024, it will continue to optimize the charging infrastructure network and add more than 600 NEV charging facilities.

In addition, Shinan district will focus on developing the charging economy and low-carbon economy, accelerating the aggregation of new energy headquarters and R&D enterprises, and constructing a digital NEV industrial park to drive consumption upgrades through industrial development, said Chen Wenlu, an official from the district bureau of development and reform.
