In collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. under China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) recently inked shipbuilding contracts with Japan-based Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. and Eastern Pacific Shipping Pte. Ltd. (EPS) in Singapore on three 210,000-tonnage LNG DF bulk cargo ships and four 210,000-tonnage Ammonia DF/DF Ready bulk cargo ships, respectively. At the beginning of 2024, the shipbuilding industry in Qingdao maintains the momentum featuring full occupation and order as last year and gets off a strong start.

The orders Beihai Shipbuilding currently holds in hand include as many as 61 ships, 42 of which are Newcastle-type bulk carriers. Beihai Shipbuilding sustains its No. 1 position in regard to the market share of large bulk carriers, with order backlog to be handled until the second half of 2028.

As 2024 begins, Qingdao’s shipbuilding industry works hard to grasp market opportunities presented by new energy, goes full steam ahead and spares no effort to vie for orders. For example, Beihai Shipbuilding commits itself to design and R&D of green energy-powered ships, Beihai Shipbuilding, with the share of new energy environmentally friendly ships among orders in hand surpassing 90%. After early shipbuilding contracts take effect, shipping tycoons start to place additional orders one after another, highlighting their trust in Qingdao shipbuilders’ design and building capacity.  (Zhou Xiaofeng)
