The eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province saw a surge in consumption during this year's combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday from Sept 29 to Oct 6.

Over the holiday, Qingdao's 81 A-level scenic spots received over 6.18 million tourists, an increase of 253.12 percent year-on-year, while operating income hit 133.61 million yuan ($18.29 million), an increase of 172.19 percent.

The city's 10 key business enterprises achieved sales of 782 million yuan, while 20 key catering enterprises achieved a turnover of 167 million yuan during the holiday.

A total of 75 five-star hotels were monitored during the holiday, accommodating 103,114 guests – a year-on-year growth of 112.23 percent. The occupancy rate was 57.81 percent, an increase of 30.08 percentage points compared to the same period last year. Their total revenue reached 81.80 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 90.46 percent.

Qingdao has been ramping up efforts to improve tourism product supply and services, enhancing its tourism appeal. During the holiday, the city's scenic areas, public cultural venues and business areas launched diverse and exciting cultural tourism activities, combining elements of "China chic" (or guochao, featuring fancy designs mixed with elements from traditional culture), entertainment, fashion, and sightseeing, which were well-received by local residents and tourists alike.
