CITY OF EL MONTE LAUNCHES GUARANTEED INCOME PROGRAM 2023/3/28 source: Print

El Monte, CA – Today, the City of El Monte launched its Guaranteed Income Program which will provide 125 eligible El Monte residents with $500 per month, for twelve months, totaling $6,000 in support. The City’s Guaranteed Income Program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to help alleviate the negative effects of COVID-19 El Monte residents experienced. Eligible El Monte residents are encouraged to apply as the application is available today, March 27, 2023 and will close on April 15, 2023.    

 

“This is one of the most direct ways that we can deploy ARPA funds to the most vulnerable residents in our El Monte community”, shared Alma Martinez, El Monte City Manager. "We are proud to partner with the RAND Corporation, one of the most respected research organizations who will administer and evaluate the program." 

 

Eligible participants must be female heads of household (no spouse present), El Monte residents with dependents under the age of 18, who have been impacted by COVID-19 with a verified household income at or below poverty level based on the 2023 U.S. Department of Commerce thresholds.

 

“The City is excited to announce that applications are now open and will be received until April 15, 2023. Applications can be submitted online or in person”, stated Betty Donavanik, City of El Monte Community and Economic Development Director.

 

The City partnered with RAND Corporation to help assist and manage the Guaranteed Income Program. The RAND Corporation will complete promotion, recruitment, and outreach for the program. They will assist with program enrollment, review of applications for eligibility, enroll selected participants, and conduct onboarding sessions with participants.

 

“We look forward to joining the other cities in the United States that are using their resources to strive to make a difference in their communities by exploring new models of direct support to those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ms. Martinez.
